The kitchen is a prime space for introducing eco-friendly solutions. From saving water and energy to reducing waste, there are some simple, effective ways to design sustainable kitchens that benefit clients and the environment.

Conserve water

Including water-saving taps will have a significant impact. Options include:

Sensor taps: Infrared sensors automatically control water flow so only the amount of water needed for the task in hand is used.

Taps with ECO cartridges: These can cut water flow by up to 50 per cent and these taps often include temperature limiters that reduce hot water use.

Multifunctional taps: One tap that supplies instant boiling, filtered and regular water is more sustainable than using traditional kettles and buying bottled water.

Specify sustainable materials

Choose durable designs made from recyclable materials, such as stainless steel sinks. Franke sinks are made from 70 per cent recycled material and are fully recyclable at the end of their lifecycle.

Stainless steel sinks stand up well to wear and tear, last for decades and maintain their aesthetic appeal while being resistant to corrosion, heat and staining. Their longevity makes them a sustainable design option.

Manage waste well

Install food waste disposers to help clients reduce their environmental impact.

The units grind food waste into flushable particles, cutting the volume of organic waste that goes to landfill. Once the waste reaches the wastewater treatment plant it can be repurposed to produce biogas and soil nutrients.

Food waste disposers provide a convenient and hygienic way to handle waste such as vegetable peelings, coffee grounds and leftovers.

They are compact, unobtrusive and easy to install in any setting, from small urban apartments to large family homes.

Also include integrated waste bins with separate compartments for cans, plastics and paper. They make life easier for clients and encourage responsible recycling practices.
