The Fuegos del Sur restaurant in Black Forest captial Freiburg im Breisgau, southern Germany, offers Patagonian fusion cuisine and great views.

From its 115 square metre terrace, guests can watch the comings and goings of small aircraft at the adjacent Freiburg Airfield and, beyond, the new Europa-Park stadium, home to SC Freiburg football club.

But the restaurant’s owners wanted a way to make the prime viewing point even more attractive to customers.

To ensure diners could enjoy the space beyond summer, they installed Markilux weatherproof awnings across 100 square metres of the terrace. The open space now offers a good 100 seats with all-round protection from sun, wind and rain.

'From spring to autumn, it can be used as an extended guest area and event space,' says Jan Kattenbeck, head of Markilux Project, the team that plans and supports awning design and installation in partnership with local specialist dealers. 'A sheltered seating area has proved to be particularly important to our business customers.'

Specifying the Markilux Pergola Stretch at Fuegos del Sur

The restaurant owners chose the Markilux Pergola Stretch model, which is made up of a wall-mounted structure, two supporting front posts and a folding awning cover.

At Fuegos del Sur, several units have been linked together across the terrace with some incorporating automatically controlled vertical roller blinds.

The blinds can be lowered as windbreaks if needed and, together with the Format Triangle model, can be used to divide the terrace into separate dining spaces when necessary.

All vertical blinds feature a transparent window that allows views out and plenty of light in. In the evening, LED Lines on the awning supporting structure provide attractive lighting and a welcoming atmosphere into the evening.
