The newly developed M&G Building at Kildean Business Park in Stirling, Scotland marks a major step towards sustainable architecture and greener business environments.

Envisioned as part of the city's broader aspiration for an eco-friendly future, the 39-acre site led by the Stirling Development Agency (a partnership between Stirling Council and Cromwell Property Group) is set to become a hub for over 3,900 employees in Grade A offices, retail, leisure and hospitality spaces.

Central to the M&G Building’s design was achieving a BREEAM Excellent rating. This stringent benchmark in sustainable construction encompasses environmental performance across energy use, pollution reduction and health and wellbeing factors.

For savings and investment company M&G, this translated into a robust collaboration with Bauder, which supplied innovative roofing solutions that met the project’s high sustainability and aesthetic standards.

Bauder’s Thermofol PVC single-ply membrane was selected for its durability and lightweight properties, which facilitated a faster installation, reducing environmental impact during construction. In the building’s central roof area, Bauder’s hot melt structural waterproofing system provides extra resilience for housing the plant infrastructure, underscoring the building’s functional, elegant approach to design.

To maximise insulation, the project specified BauderPIR FA G16 tapered insulation, which achieves an impressive U-value of 0.11 W/m²K, minimising energy loss and ensuring thermal efficiency.

Bauder’s area technical team worked closely with all stakeholders, including Michael Laird Architects, to refine the specifications. Special attention was given to detailed designs for tapered insulation and edge detailing, critical to both energy performance and visual harmony with the surrounding landscape.

'The Bauder team’s expertise was instrumental in delivering a seamless solution, with meticulous attention to insulation detailing and precision in the multi-system roof installation,' says Stephen Brewer, project director at Michael Laird Architects. 'For many years, we have specified Bauder systems for their innovative, environmentally sound roofing solutions.'

The M&G Building not only embodies the present ethos of greener construction. but also sets a forward-looking precedent for environmentally integrated workspaces in the UK.
