The roofing material specified for the renovation of a collection of 160-year-old farm buildings in West Yorkshire is natural, durable, maintenance-free - and beautiful
Developer Andas Homes has specified Cupa Pizarras natural roofing slate for a series of barn-to-house conversions in Wetherby, West Yorkshire.
The barns were built over 160 years ago and, keen to make the renovations as sustainable as possible, the team wanted to use eco-friendly building materials that would complement the original design features.
All Andas Homes projects have a focus on biophilic design and connecting to the natural world. At Wetherby, space and quality have been prioritised to achieve a luxurious finish that complements and makes the most of a picturesque setting.
Roofing spec: Cupa R18 slates
Architects on the project, Harrogate-based Dormer & Co, suggested Cupa Pizarras natural roofing slate after attending a CPD with the producer.
The Andas Homes team met with the local Cupa Pizarras sales representative to find out more about the company and the sustainability credentials of its natural roofing slate.
'We loved the finish of the Cupa R18 natural slate,' says Michael Simpson from Andas Homes. 'We chose it for its sustainable properties and its perfect fit for this project.'
Contractor Cousin’s Roofing had previously worked with Cupa Pizarras natural slate and also encouraged its specification.
Despite dealing with some difficult design aspects, such as sprocketed eaves that led in to hips only wide enough for one slate, roofer Phil Marson enjoyed working with the slate.
'It is a great product and always looks amazing when it's laid correctly,' he says. 'We often suggest Cupa R18 when asked for a recommendation for a project.'
